The sectoral composition of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Asia mirrors that of GDP in most countries. The presentation outlines some factors behind changes in investment and trade policy and the increase in the services sector: Unilateral liberalization; Bilateral and regional agreements; Commitments under the WTO; and, General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS). The service sector was liberalized much later than the industrial sector. As a result of technological progress and policy reforms, FDI flows have evolved in terms of sectors and investors.en
