Significant crop yield increases over the past decades have not benefited people equally and have grown at the cost of soil depletion, environmental sustainability, biodiversity and climate change. This presentation by the International Assessment of Agricultural Knowledge, Science and Technology (IAAST) outlines the accomplishments and challenges of increased agricultural production. It advocates for increased support of smallholder farmers – who produce the bulk of global food. Productivity increases by smallholders will have a positive impact on all development goals. The presentation provides numerous options to achieve this end.en
