The aim is to learn from those in resistance or liberation movements who have used violence in their struggle but have also engaged politically during the conflict and in any peace process. Each study in this series makes a strong argument for the necessary inclusion of the movement in any future settlement. The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) emerged as the dominant Tamil protagonist with its own agency, but its transformation may hinge more on the relationships between the organization and the international community and less so on its relationship with the Sri Lankan state. This study examines the ongoing conflict in detail.en
