dc.description.abstract | The article reviews aspects of the World Urban Forum (WUF3), especially ‘turning ideas into action’ and focusing on participants from Jakarta. The urban planning aspects of the host city of Vancouver were cause for inspiration. Environmental degradation in Jakarta’s slums, caused by a high-density population with too few basic services and infrastructure, dominated the thoughts of Craig Redmond, Mercy Corps’ country director in Jakarta. Post conference, Redmond feels ready to address issues such as land tenure, economic opportunities in urban slums, the capacity of local governments, and giving a voice to the urban poor. | en |
