In gearing up research communication, there are many things research funders can do to encourage effective communication. Providing additional funding for communication work is part of this. Equally importantly, funders can incentivize systems by making it clear they expect researchers to pay more attention to communication issues, and checking to make sure that they do. Demonstrating the impact of research is seen as a high priority, though a difficult one to deliver on. The workshop underlined how funders, researchers and knowledge intermediaries can gain by working together, sharing problems as well as successes.en
