This is an address to Industry Canada by past IDRC president, Maureen O'Neil about the role of civil society, the not-for-profit sector in the e-economy and how it is that new partnerships can be generated among these groups. For instance, if the not-for-profit sector helps to “make” the digital market in poor countries, then having private sector and government side-by-side with the not-for-profits will improve the efficiency of the process. It is now much better understood that “multi-stakeholder” partnerships like this are often the only real way to achieve scale in solving problems and building opportunities.en
