The Indian biotech industry has increased five-fold from its size in 1997 and valued at about $2.5 billion in 2008- 09 which was then about 2% of the global biotech market. The presentation reviews patents in biotechnology, and organizations working in the field in areas of stem cell research, transgenic research, biopesticides, neurobiology; vectors, genes for plant trait; genomics; nanotechnology; recombinant product; therapeutics; biopolymer and others. It explores patent pooling in the context of industry in India. There is no clear incentive in low-income countries for companies to contribute their high-valued patents to a patent pool.en
