dc.description.abstractPost Idi-Amin, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) came to power in Uganda in 1986 after a five-year civil war. This wonderful paper provides an account of the rise and fall of women’s representation in politics and as well, the personal and political struggles of the author in helping to enshrine rights for women, and fighting corruption. “It was often explained that the struggle for equality and against patriarchy was secondary to the one we were directly engaged in, and that pushing gender equality would alienate peasants… there always seemed to be a ready excuse for delaying action...”en
