Of the five categories of livelihoods’ capital assets (human, social, natural, physical and financial), natural capital is most critical for livelihoods of communities. Natural capital includes: natural resources stocks – the land, water, wildlife, biodiversity, grazing and etc. Land degradation therefore is a threat especially to rural livelihoods. There is a need to map out ecosystem services provided by various regions, and the particular ecosystems that will enable land use zoning as proposed in the draft land policy. This detailed report begins the process of mapping resources and existing threats to them, with analysis of the linkages between natural resources use and policy.en
