Abstract
Adaptive local development (ALD) promotes sustainable development integrated with risk management, socio-ecological resilience and adaptation to climate change. This policy brief identifies key roles that are part of the adaptation process from local to international levels, along with enabling conditions in the interrelated phases of policy, local development and adaptation processes. “Local development” is a territorial construction which aims to promote growth in all aspects, alongside different attributes that can be regulatory, infrastructure, organizational, financial, and most importantly, empowered human resources. A decision-making culture based on scientific evidence is an essential and cross-cutting part of ALD policies, strategies and actions.
