Abstract
This comprehensive paper provides details of civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) systems including the case of CRVS in the Philippines and in Kenya. A CRVS system that provides for women and children cannot exist in isolation. For that reason, CRVS laws and circulars have been crafted in conjunction with legal protection for women and children (the Philippines’ Magna Carta of Women). Civil registration can be seamlessly integrated with vital statistics and national identification systems. The brief discusses gender differences and how different health needs interact differently within the health system, influencing mortality and causes of death. It provides bibliographic references and links.
