Abstract

The Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) has proven to be nimble, adaptive, and innovative as an institution. For instance: the CoE quickly learned from early challenges in offering direct country-level support; rapidly pivoted both operationally and thematically in the face of COVID-19; took on neglected topics such as marriage registration; and is revamping its approach to both its Directory of Experts and its Resource Library in order to overcome identified challenges. A major external challenge has been bureaucratic hurdles in creating formal partnerships with, and giving grants to UN agencies. The report provides a detailed account of activities to date.
