Abstract

The project had two components: training and research. Training enhanced research capacity at the department of economics, University of Khartoum, as well as at other institutions. Researchers from the Faculty of Economic and Social Studies, including Sudanese economists abroad, investigated key aspects of Sudan's labour market relating to labour's role in growth and structural transformation, determinants of labour participation, youth participation, informal employment, and the links between policy reforms, economic growth, employment, and reduction of poverty and inequality. Structural change over sub-periods represent agriculture-led growth, oil-driven-growth, and the recovery program after the collapse of oil exports due to secession of South Sudan.
