Abstract

The newspaper article covers a conference about priority areas for health equity research processes in India. A consensus-based document involving a wide range of stakeholders was also finalised. Experts say a detailed evaluation of health inequity and vulnerable groups such as tribal and Dalit populations, and fisherfolk is needed. Researchers along with governments have to set priorities together. Absence of solid data obtained through detailed research is resulting in unreasonable or even senseless policies. Despite many health programmes targeted at tribal communities, women and children are still the most vulnerable.
