Funding challenges of climate change adapting in Latin America and the Caribbean

Abstract
Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) countries have faced many barriers over time in terms of access to and implementation of climate funds. The main barriers are outlined in this policy brief, with recommendations that would ease the situation for some low-income countries. For instance, regarding the Green Climate Fund (GCF), countries of the region have access to a funding limit of USD 3 million per country to develop National Adaptation Plans. Another instrument that is growing rapidly is green bonds, although these are mostly used for climate change mitigation rather than adaptation.
