Rapid fruit value chain assessment of longan, mango, dragon fruit, banana, coconut

Abstract

Findings from the assessment illuminate the need for improvements in the fruit sub-sector. Farmers need training in pesticide use and pest and disease management. A working group could become responsible for developing integrated value chains for fruit, covering all stages of intervention. Recommendations include building capacity and increasing network and linkages between local producers, collectors, wholesalers and retailers, and; organizing public-private dialogues/events for public sectors, private sectors and financial institutions at least twice a year to discuss issues and identify interventions. At least one pilot value chain model should be implemented to inform best practices.
