Abstract
This report provides a summary view of key economic and political trends in the Americas region. Following the introduction, Section 2 identifies economic trends; Section 3, on political dynamics highlights democracy in the region; Section 4 focuses on security challenges, especially related to crime and drug trafficking; Section 5 highlights improvements in reducing gender gaps; Section 6 focuses on migration and refugees; Section 7 offers an overview of the presence and role of the United States as well as foreign actors (China, EU and Russia) in the region. Section 8 closes with a discussion of trends for Canada’s engagement in the region.
