Abstract

The presentation highlights how a woman’s status in society can determine health, access to health care, and the health of her children. Power relations play a central role in how gender influences social norms, decision making, and access to resources. Drawing from the WHO’s Gender Responsiveness Assessment Scale, the presentation reflects on health systems and gender responsiveness in moving towards effective health care delivery in Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali, Nigeria and Senegal.
