Abstract
The risk of adverse heat effects include increased heat-related morbidity and mortality and loss of productivity. These debilitating factors are expected to grow further because of climate change. Heat stress in rural areas is an overlooked problem. This pilot study highlights the urgency for wider, in-depth research to better understand heat stress, thermal comfort, ventilation and radiation, and how people in rural areas are affected. Collaborative Adaptation Research Initiative in Africa and Asia (CARIAA) addresses and raises awareness about heat stress and related illness in South Asia, and gathers evidence on appropriate measures towards better adaptive strategies.
