Abstract

A pilot project in Dhungentar (Nepal) sought to create a resilience-building mountain village, and focused on helping locals rebuild, recover and rebound from the devastating earthquake of 2015 in a manner that would insulate them from future shocks. The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) partnered with the Nepalese government Nepal Reconstruction Authority (NRA) using “build-back-better” principles for post-disaster recovery along with a Community Based Reconstruction Committee. This in-depth report covers infrastructure design and innovative construction techniques that integrate with ecosystem services, along with the challenges of working with new technologies and systems.
