Abstract
This policy brief outlines some of the ways that IDRC research supports women’s financial inclusion, and provides embedded links to referenced work. IDRC-supported research indicates that women’s use of financial services will increase if services and products meet their needs and address gender-based constraints. Access-focused approaches often overlook other factors that are key to effective financial inclusion; women also need to be able to leverage financial products and services. It is not easy to shift behavioural and cultural norms, but well-designed, strategically implemented financial products and services can play a role, along with effective regulations.
