Abstract
The presentation focuses on adoption of Open Educational Resources (OER) by academics in South African institutions. The OER Adoption pyramid tool prompts a series of questions to help assess the OER readiness of an institution. To clarify which factors are required for any type of OER activity, it consolidates them into six hierarchically related categories: access, permission, awareness, capacity, availability and volition. The graphic reveals that all six of these attributes work together to enable OER activity. The relative importance of Structure, Culture and Agency on motivating OER activities according to the context of institutional culture is also reflected upon.
