Abstract

The project contributes to food security in Africa by generating vaccines for prevention of high-impact viral livestock diseases. It developed testing and transition to production of several vaccines, based on two platform technologies. The first is based on lumpy skin disease viral (LSDV) vector, working to construct combinations of vector and inserts, allowing for adaptation to a variety of threats and markets. The second platform technology is based on porcine adenovirus (PAdV) using bioinformatics for their potential to confer protective immunity against African swine fever (ASF). A strong socio-economic research program guided the development of scaling-up strategies for vaccine roll out, in parallel to vaccine development.
