African institute for mathematical sciences next Einstein initiative final evaluation 2017

Abstract

This detailed evaluation report focuses on the Academic Program, the Industry Initiative, and the contribution of the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) Alumni to Africa’s development. The Academic Program is linked to the Industry Initiative through adaptation of course curricula towards building sustainable partnerships and facilitating internships in order to enhance outcomes for graduates. AIMS has created access to a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) post-graduate degree for approximately 170 students each year. Findings show that AIMS research currently (to 2015) contributes to research excellence in Africa. Financial sustainability is AIMS’ most pressing issue due to cessation of the donor funding period.
