Abstract

This report reviews the research portfolio of the Growth and Economic Opportunities for Women (GrOW) program dealing with macroeconomic issues. The GrOW portfolio includes 10 studies on enabling factors linking growth to women’s economic empowerment. The paper lays out some of the key findings, with a focus on policy lessons and actions to promote women’s economic empowerment and economic growth. Evidence robustly shows that lowering gender gaps in education leads to higher economic performance. The literature on impacts of other gaps including the employment gaps is limited, but also points to higher growth as a result of decreasing gender gaps.
