Synergizing fertilizer micro-dosing and indigenous vegetable production to enhance food and economic security of West African farmers (CIFSRF Phase 2) : final value addition report
Abstract
The project focuses on development and deployment of new technologies that create improvement in farming practices, post-harvest handling and value addition for indigenous green leafy vegetables such as Solanum macrocarpon (African eggplant), Telfairia occidentalis (fluted pumpkin) and Amaranthus viridis (Amaranth). The in-depth paper reviews testing of appropriate technologies and applications such as an evaporative cooler, charcoal-powered oven and low-cost bucket dryer (sun-dryer) converting fresh leafy vegetables into dried leaves with shelf-life of 12 months. This report brings together information on all aspects and outputs of the project including links to videos and training materials.
