Sexuality and security in South Africa
Abstract
Even after decriminalization of same-sex relations, rates of violence have remained high against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) South Africans, particularly black LGBT populations residing in the majority black townships of South Africa. This brief provides an overview of issues around sexual and gender-based violence against LGBT persons, with recommendations for policy changes that can produce better outcomes for LGBT communities.
