Abstract
IDRC is at the midpoint of its Strategic Plan 2015-2020. This paper aims to facilitate a clearer understanding of the merits of different research for development (R4D) models and approaches as they relate to influencing policy and practice. A brief scan of the R4D landscape is presented, drawn from five cases of donors, foundations and programmes, selected in consultation with IDRC to illustrate possible strategic options. Amongst the organisations and programmes reviewed, there has been a gradual movement towards developing strategic partnerships, networks, communities of practice, and working in a transdisciplinary way.
