Abstract
The first edition of the Next Einstein Forum Global Gathering 2016 (NEF GG 2016), with the theme Connecting Science to Humanity, was held in Dakar, Senegal. The NEF GG established the level of excellence and global aspiration for science in Africa, with the Next Einstein Forum (NEF) leveraging science for human development. The report provides background to the NEF, outcomes, key activities, and a summary of survey feedback. The NEF works to foster a strong African scientific community as part of the global scientific community.
