Abstract

The private security sector has grown at an exponential rate. In line with Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority’s (PSIRA) strategic objective of seeking to fully understand the private security industry and respond to its needs and challenges, it is critical that a comparative study on the industry, which includes states beyond South Africa, be conducted. Countries studied were Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Swaziland. The Policy Guideline on Crime Prevention Partnerships between State and Private Security Providers (Policy Guideline) outlines salient features in the establishment of partnerships between state and private security providers to address crime.
