Abstract

The purpose of the programme is to deepen understanding of whether, how, for whom, and in what circumstances, the free networked public sharing of digital information and communication resources may contribute towards positive social transformation. This study explores the situated material conditions and informal learning practices that surround processes of inclusion in (and exclusion from) Open Development initiatives. For instance, if potential participants are not able to connect with or be accepted by existing learning networks, an open development project may be exclusionary, only engaging or benefiting a limited range of people.
