Item Gender audit of the African institute for mathematical sciences : summary of key findings & recommendations(2013-10) Craggs-Milne, KarenAs part of the Monitoring and Evaluation plan for the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), a gender situational analysis of women in tertiary education in Africa was included as part of the baseline study. At the same time, a Gender Audit was commissioned to provide the basis for the development of a network-wide Gender Policy and Strategy. This detailed report provides key findings of the audit. Recommendations include the development and roll out of a network-wide Gender Policy and Strategy Framework, including basic gender training for all staff.Item Network news : African institute for mathematical sciences next Einstein initiative June 2016(2016-06) The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences - Next Einstein Initiative Foundation (UK)The AIMS-NEI Network News is produced quarterly by the African institute for mathematical sciences (AIMS) Next Einstein Initiative. It provides updates on scholarly news, fellowships, research partnerships and new research initiatives. A consultative meeting brought together key actors to discuss the development of a pan-African Agenda for Women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). This report provides details of the scope of the AIMS programme, along with evaluation of objectives, accomplishments and challenges. IDRC has provided flexibility in their support and oversight, allowing AIMS to take risks and demonstrate innovation.Item AIMS IDRC/DFID : final technical report(2017-11)The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) is an innovative network of post-graduate centres for education, research and public engagement in mathematical sciences, providing advanced and broadly applicable mathematical skills to talented students from all over Africa. Founded in 2003 in Cape Town, South Africa, AIMS offers a one year Master’s in Mathematical Sciences that trains over 250 talented women and men from across the continent each year, preparing them for leadership positions in academia, government, civil society, private sector and entrepreneurship. Research is also an integral part of the AIMS mandate and ecosystem for transformation. Since its launch, AIMS has won global recognition as a centre of excellence for postgraduate education and research4. Building on its success, AIMS launched the Next Einstein Initiative (NEI) in 2008, to build a critical mass of scientific and technical talent in Africa, capable of driving progress across the continent. With a plan to expand to 15 centres in Africa by 2021, AIMS currently operates a global secretariat plus six centres of excellence: AIMS South Africa (2003); AIMS Senegal (2011); AIMS Ghana (2012); AIMS Cameroon (2013); AIMS Tanzania (2014); and AIMS Rwanda (2016).Item Next Einstein Forum Global Gathering 2016(2016) Namdiero-Walsh, AudreyThe first edition of the Next Einstein Forum Global Gathering 2016 (NEF GG 2016), with the theme Connecting Science to Humanity, was held in Dakar, Senegal. The NEF GG established the level of excellence and global aspiration for science in Africa, with the Next Einstein Forum (NEF) leveraging science for human development. The report provides background to the NEF, outcomes, key activities, and a summary of survey feedback. À travers le réseau, 237 étudiants, dont 78 femmes ont obtenu leur diplôme dans leur centre respectif. Across the network, 237 students including 78 women graduated from their respective centres. This brings the total number of alumni to 1210, with 32% of them women from 42 African countries.Item Mid-term evaluation of the AIMS-IDRC/DFID program, 2010-2017 : final report(Technopolis Group, 2015-09) Sadeski, Francie; Allinson, Rebecca; Dani, Soheir; Ploeg, Matthias; Svetachova, Marina; Vaucelle, Flore; Zegel, StijnThe evaluation serves to provide the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS Secretariat, Centres and Chapters), AIMS Board and stakeholders, with information on the achievements of AIMS, on lessons learnt, on opportunities for change and in a context of organizational and operational growth, on recommendations for the future. It provides accountability for the main funders, addressing relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, impact, and sustainability regarding AIMS’s goals.
