Abstract
The work done through CWP is decided through a participatory process that identifies ‘useful work’ that the community feels will contribute to the public good and improve the community’s quality of life. CWP management has had to be firm in resisting attempts to become politicized. Governance issues, leadership and nepotism are visible and somewhat anticipated problems that occur regularly. Support and partnership with the City of Johannesberg (CoJ) has widened CWP opportunities, and increased access to basic services as well as recently providing sports facilities. Crime patterns have changed. However, domestic violence remains a major problem
