Abstract
Income diversification and degree of labor dependence negatively and significantly affected technical efficiency, while access to agricultural credit had a positive and statistically significant relationship with efficiency. These relationships held especially true for smallholder coffee farms with ethnic minority household heads. Policy options of accommodating and increasing rural credit loans, intensive investment in coffee production, and dependent management strategies for labor sources, are suggested as an integrated approach to improving technical efficiency in coffee production of smallholder coffee farms.
