Abstract

Based on the complex intricacies uncovered through this research, the future responsibility of the Samdrup Jongkhar Initiative may be most effective as a facilitator between farmers and agricultural extension officers, paying particular attention to the role that religion plays in agricultural decision-making, building individual capacity, and forging collaborative relationships. The research documents traditional agricultural knowledge and agroecological practices, knowledge gained through organic agriculture training programmes, and the perspectives of farmers. Training in improved organic farming methods included: soil fertility and pest management, composting, seed storage, organization of co-operatives, terracing, and rainwater harvesting.
