Abstract

This is a detailed report that covers trends in political and economic conditions, as well as the impacts of civic education in Kenyan society. A key finding of the civic education mapping study is evidence of a growing influence of governance and civil society sectors (NGOs and religious institutions) on the national platform in Kenya, a direct consequence of the ability to mobilise grassroots support. However, the relationship between government and NGOs and other civil society organisations (CSO), can rarely be described as friendly. Prior to better understanding civic engagement, individuals within groups did not understand their collective “people power” and agency.
