Abstract
The difficulty in accessing water in this area is mainly due to poor management of existing resources. The lack of synergy between sectors in implementing integrated water resources management exemplifies the problem. Current practices were assessed through discussion groups and surveys with 15,000 households. From survey results, detailed data is available for the first time on surface and groundwater sources in the Mahafaly Plateau. Research results will be shared with the communities, who play an important role in improving water management practices and maintaining infrastructure; as well Comité Eau, a framework for information sharing and discussion among water stakeholders has been initiated.
