Abstract

The study shows that the most preferred source of information about TB are health care workers. Thus, raising community awareness about the signs and symptoms of TB lies primarily with health professionals. Training of health care workers should be intensified, particularly in rural areas. There should be a clear policy on the role of family members as direct observation of treatment (DOT) supervisors. Innovative means of strengthening social networks and support will contribute greatly to improving access to health care facilities, and should be a major thrust of operational research. The study provides a baseline of information regarding tuberculosis in Zimbabwe.
