Abstract
Despite the substantial gains in child and overall health, maternal mortality remains high, and most mothers give birth outside of healthcare facilities and without skilled birth assistance. However, most facilities are operating at optimal or above-optimal levels of utilization, with the system as a whole evidencing problems of undersupply. This report discusses results of the Bangladesh Facility Efficiency Survey 2011 which surveyed the services and costs in a nationally representative, stratified sample of 135 Ministry of Health and Family Welfare facilities.
