Abstract
Successful adaptation plans and mechanisms with capacity to benefit vulnerable communities will depend on research that produces rigorous evidence. The Collaborative Adaptation Research Initiative in Africa and Asia (CARIAA) aims to build climate change resilience through research which informs effective adaptation policy and practice. The methodologies for Economics of Climate change Adaptation (EAA) are diverse, and shift when analysis is scaled down from global to national and local levels. This detailed paper contains: summaries of studies in three hotspots; examples of studies on costs and benefits; discussion of EAA methodologies; comparison and analysis of approaches; policy making; and critical issues.
