Abstract

Led by researchers from McGill University and the University of the West Indies, the Farm to Fork project brought together 15 local, national and regional partners to challenge increasing rates of obesity and low productivity and availability of fruit and vegetables. Support for agricultural technology adoption allows smallholder farmers to supply local produce to emerging markets, including school meals in St Kitts-Nevis and Trinidad and Tobago. There remains an urgent need for wider acceptance of local foods at the community and national levels, shifting consumption away from energy-dense imported foods while helping boost local markets for small farmers.
