Abstract
The phenomenon of undernourishment combined with simultaneous excess weight is called the “double burden of malnutrition.” As part of the research “Improving potato production as a food security contribution of native communities in Nariño, Colombia”(2013), a diagnosis of the food security situation in farmer families was conducted. Stunting or chronic malnutrition is a condition which indicates a food and nutrition insecurity problem in the long term, especially when social, economic, health and environmental conditions have been deficient for a prolonged period. For Andean households in this study, the double burden of malnutrition is higher than regional and national levels, meriting urgent intervention.
