Abstract

This report summarizes Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Kumvana Program (KP) which aimed to fill a gap in leadership development programming in sub-Saharan Africa, providing African Leaders an opportunity to come together in a focused environment with other high-capacity leaders from Canada and Africa. The 4-month program included two and a half months in participants’ home countries, one and a half months in Canada, and follow-up surveys. Thirteen participants represented local government, water and sanitation, and agriculture sectors. Organizers need to provide more time and resources/guidelines to assist the work placement hosts with planning a placement, including better education about EWB.
