Abstract

This brief describes programmes of research by the Canadian International Food Security Research Fund (CIFSRF) and presents emerging findings from the program’s first five years, in topics such as: new vaccines against livestock diseases (Sub-Saharan Africa); higher yields, more efficient water use (Sahel); higher income, better diets from raising goats and sheep (Tanzania); better soils, crops, and nutrition (Ethiopia); wild vegetables tamed for food and income (Nigeria); farmers adopting innovations on a large scale (Kenya); adding value to local fisheries (Bolivian Amazon); protecting fruit, increasing income (Sri Lanka, India); hardier, more nutritious potatoes (Colombia).
