Food security, fisheries and aquaculture in the Bolivian Amazon : final technical report (March 1, 2011 to February 28, 2014)

Abstract

Value chain analysis identified social factors as the main impediment to equitable returns from fisheries that could contribute to poverty alleviation, coupled with unclear and/or prohibitive governance policies. The project thus focussed on improving fisheries-based livelihoods, promoting fish consumption in the urban setting as part of market development, and using fisheries as an entry point to address hygiene and community development capacity. The fisheries value chain analysis paid particular attention to the key role played by women, especially at the level of the commercial value links and for family food security.
