Abstract
Multiple long-term strategies have been envisaged for achieving sustainability of ground water use in Punjab. In order to further promote water conservation among the farmers of Punjab, the use of tensiometers as a tool for irrigation scheduling in rice is being promoted. 1,848 tensiometers were installed in famers’ fields; on average tensiometer adoption brought down water consumption in rice by 14-15%.
