Abstract
Presents a critical examination of the standard idealistic approach to development which has attempted to rectify perceived differences in the social structure, economic organization and culture of the Third World nations. Proposes an alternative "processual" development model which focuses upon the actual survival behaviours of the poor and upon the specific context that makes it relevant.
