Abstract
India’s aid policy has been little studied. This paper addresses the topic from foundational statistical information and historical analysis, to the aims of aid, and the foreign policy context in which it is provided. The author draws some conclusions: that the aid pattern has been demand-driven and politically punctuated, though non-prescriptive, and not guided by an overall strategy or philosophy of economic development.
