Abstract
Suitable policy planning, and development of implementation strategies for food and nutritional security in a tribal context need to be designed. These communities possess valuable local knowledge in nutrition and agriculture. The present study highlights the traditional inter-linkages of three tribal communities (Poraja, Kandha and Penthia) with millets, the planning of scientific interventions in participatory mode with the communities to promote millet production and consumption, plus commerce and study of the impact of new interventions. Introduction of women-friendly technologies to remove drudgery and increase efficiency were increasingly welcomed and adopted by tribal women.
