Abstract

Five Caribbean countries were selected to introduce, integrate and embed ICTs within their healthcare systems in a developing country context. As the project progressed there was an emergent focus on building research capacity of participant nurses. The team combined researchers from the University of Saskatchewan in partnership with Caribbean on-island collaborators who worked to assess the role and impact of innovative ICTs for mobile health, such as PDAs (personal digital assistant) or wireless systems (PDA2W) in enhancing clinical practice and patient care through access to relevant health care information and evidence within select public hospitals in Barbados, Dominica, Dominican Republic, St. Lucia, St. Kitts-Nevis.
